The Crawl-Walk-Run Playbook for Adopting AI | Jim Hasty, Ep 53
Episode Summary
Jim Hasty, founder of Cogle Group, discusses his company's evolution from technology consulting to AI-powered software products. He shares lessons from building Plan Checkers, an AI tool that reduces municipal permit review time from weeks to minutes, and outlines a crawl-walk-run framework for enterprise AI adoption focused on automating emotionally draining tasks rather than chasing adoption metrics.
Pull Quotes
“There are only a few I've talked to that seem to be really pressing the envelope. The ones that have actually stopped and figured out how to really leverage it, I think, are paying off huge dividends. There's still a huge amount of opportunity out there of individuals and companies that have yet to really scratch the surface.”
On why most AI initiatives fail
“I tell people to start there and then also be realistic about measuring success. There was a McKinsey study that came out last year, but all these failed AI projects. Well, you start to look at that and go, okay, what are you really measuring?”
“It's something that we offer in our consulting services is the opportunity to get a little education. We call it a Kickstarter program. You get a little bit of education on what it is because a lot of people, again, they've kind of heard bits and pieces, but they've never really seen some of the key capabilities.”
On building Plan Checkers
“I remember having an aha moment early November of last year, driving back from a visit to my mother actually, and I could hear our friends in Forsyth County in my ear, especially the county manager. And so the next day I sat down with some tools and put together a proof of concept that at least showed me, hey, this is possible.”
“If you're not learning and starting to take advantage of the AI tools that are available in some shape, form or fashion, we tell people all the time, you're going to get left behind. And that is becoming the case.”

2026 Trends: Trust in AI, Healthcare, College, AGI & More | Bryan Dennstedt, Ep 41
Todd and Bryan Dennstedt review their 2025 AI predictions, finding they accurately forecasted the AI trough of disillusionment, agentic AI emergence, and VC conservatism. They predict 2026 will be defined by organizational absorption of AI capabilities rather than new breakthroughs, with agentic workflows becoming default, SaaS pricing models compressing, and trust verification emerging as a critical business category. They emphasize that rapid AI-powered software development is fundamentally changing startup economics and making previously marginal business ideas viable.
